The Environment

POLLUTION?

When you see the beauty of something like this it's hard to imagine the damage we are doing every day.

Pictures can be doctored and facts can be skewed.  People can say what they want to serve their own agendas.  But the fact remains that mankind, with his “it’s all about me” lifestyle has had an impact on the earth and every ecosystem upon it.

Americans, and I focus on Americans because I am one, generate 5 lbs of solid waste every day.  That is total waste generated in our country divided between each of us.  That’s not to say, I personally or you personally generate this waste.  But our lifestyle certainly does.

Organic Waste

Many cities are requiring waste diversion quotas to be met to keep this waste out of the landfill.

In a typical day in the United States, we throw away 200,000 tons of edible food without giving it a thought.  That’s incredible when you think of all the starving people in the world!  We recycle only 2% of our waste and dump the rest of it into a landfill creating a toxic condition that impacts our water table.

Electronic Waste

Computers, printers, tvs, mp3 player...the list goes on. It's so much easier to just throw it out in the trash.

Every year thousands of TONS of electronic equipment are thrown into our landfills.  This electronic waste can and most assuradly does leak toxic substances like mercury, cadmium, and chromium into our precious water table.

We have to do better

Bottom line, it’s up to each of us to do what we can to make a difference in the impact we have on our own little part of the Earth.  I see worm bin composting, small and large scale as a workable solution if we each get involved where we are at.  Take a stand and demand a better legacy for our children than a toxic heap.
